Democracies have always been threatened by agitation, hatred, and violence. But the threat has not been as great as it is today for a long time. We must no longer silently endure this development. It is time that we raise our voices and defend our democracy against its enemies, extremism, and contemptuous ideologies.
Therefore, the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security AISEC supports the statement of the Fraunhofer Society against extremism.
Fraunhofer AISEC creates security, transparency, and trust in the digital space, thus strengthening freedom, self-determination, and democracy. It actively contributes to the digital transformation for the benefit of the economy and society. For this purpose, Fraunhofer AISEC evaluates, designs, and preserves cybersecurity in the tension field of cost-effectiveness, user-friendliness, and security.
An example is our research on the topic of "Deepfakes", deceptively realistic video and audio manipulations that can be created using artificial intelligence (AI). Fraunhofer AISEC is aware of the risks and challenges and develops AI technologies that help expose the forgeries.
